- I just downloaded the pro53.zip file from ftp.cica.indiana.edu (in the
- ../win3/uploads directory, if anyone cares), and installed it. And
- immediately went back to the SVGA driver that I've been using since I've
- had my ATI GUP card.
-
- With this version of the driver, in 800x600, 256 or 65K colors, I get
- some strange effects. In 65K mode, the background and all the windows
- come up in black and white, but you can see anything useful because
- everything is in a very bizarre B&W striped pattern. I don't know how
- else to describe it. In 256 mode, everything looked OK until I opened
- an application (Ami Pro 3.0), and then all the text appeared in that
- same B&W striped pattern!
-
- It doesn't seem very likely that ATI would release a driver with such
- glaring problems, so I'm willing to believe that I did something
- wrong -- but I can't imagine what. I followed their "readme.1st"
- file to the letter.
-
- I'm using a Gateway 4DX-33V machine, and my ATI GUP has 2M of memory
- and the new RAMDAC. If anyone has a suggestion, I'd love to hear it.
