- Hello all. We have a prof in our department who wishes to look into what
- systems are available for PC backup. He has many megabytes of data
- and more as research continues and he'd like to have some sort of
- permanent backup systems so that this data can be used for years to
- come. We already have tape drives but the drawback of tapes is that they
- sometimes break, and they are magnetic hence is still not safe under
- heavy usage (many students retrieving data over the years to come).
-
- Has other research institutions/universities face this problem of
- permanent data storage (and I don't mean hardcopy :))? What do you use
- for your data backup system? Any words on WORM systems? Optical drives?
- Writeable CDs?
-
- Thanks in advance.
-
- Thomas.
