- Among the problems that I have encountered or heard about concerning
- Slackard Hell,
- 1) Their power supplies are too small. This translates to unreliability
- for a given load, and lack of expandability.
- 2) Their power supplies have a non-standard form factor. This means that
- when yours dies, you must replace it with another wimpy PB supply at 3x the
- price of a standard unit.
- 3) Other components are also non-standard. Integration of many components
- means a failure to one means an expensive replacement of a much larger part
- of the system.
- 4) Schematics, particularly for their monitors, are hard to get, adding
- days or weeks to the repair time.
- 5) Their cheaper monitors really suck, some with dot pitches of .42 or
- *worse*.
-
- There may have been others, but thankfully I haven't had to work with
- PBs for three years, nor heard much from the PC stores I'd frequent for
- leads (I was a consultant) for the last year. Other than that they were
- cheap and relatively turnkey (systems were typically complete, including
- rats and s/w preloaded).
