- In Britain, with the Computer Misuse Act, it would be illegal
- (technically) to alter the content or the function of any program
- (cracking) without the copyright holder's consent.

- Why I put `technically' is because there has been no litigation in
- Britain on this section of the act (section 3).

- A possible defence (in fact, the only defence I can think of) is implied
- authorisation (ie It is understood that the license owner (the user) is
- authorised to alter the program in the way the license owner did because
- of custom, trade practice or pure impossibility of using the program
- without such alteration etc.)
