- The "controlling" factors in data compression being operational are:
- - kernel support (does the version of HPUX you have support the drive)
- - the dip switches on the drive being set OK (they come from the
- Factory set to allow compression to be under host control)
- - the device files that you channel the data through

- It would help to know which host type (s[3478]00) you have, and which version
- of HPUX is installed. This would save copious amounts of typing listing all
- the possibilities.

- Fbackup itself is unaware that any compression is happening or not happening.
