- I have received quite a few replies to my problem with the SuperDrive controller
- card, and I thought I'd post how I resolved it for others that may be
- considering purchasing the card.
-
- First, a quick summary of the trouble I was having. Basically, I put the card
- in slot five thinking that it would totally replace the smartport. When I
- connected my drives and set the cntrl panel setting to your card, my ramdisk
- no longer appeared.
-
- I was under the impression the this card contained all the features of the GS
- smartport with the addition of controlling High Density Drives. So, I posted
- my problem here to see if there was something wrong with my card since the
- ramdisk didn't appear. After many helpful replies, and some logical thinking,
- I figured out that the card does not support the ramdrive for one because it
- is compatible with the ][e also.
-
- So, to resolve my problem, I had to do some slot rearranging. I moved the
- SuperDrive card to slot 6, and just plugged in my SuperDrive to the card. My
- sound board was in slot 6, so I moved it to slot one thinking that I'd probably
- never have to print and digitize at the same time. I plugged my other 800k
- 3.5" and 5.25" drive to the GS's smartport. With this configuration I can't
- have my 5.25 and the high density online at the same time, but that's not too
- big of a deal for me since I only use the 5.25 about 3 or 4 times a year.
- The real advantage I have found to this setup thought is that both of my 3.5
- drives are now drive 1s. Thus, I can boot from either one! This is nice since
- some FTA stuff puts the SuperDrive card in a self test mode from what I've heard.
-
- Thanks for all of the replies.
-
- Now I'm having a problem with my system saver... see a future post for more
- details.
-
-
- Thanks again
-
