- I can't find the memory muncher that is eating my Fast RAM :<
-
- It seems like the amount of Fast Ram available to me on boot up keeps shrinking,
- and I can't figure out where it is going... :<
-
- I have a 2000HD, with 2.04, 1mg Agnus/2mg Fast using full Overscan and an
- Interlaced screen on a monochrome monitor. I understand that Overscan and
- Interlacing take up CHIP ram, but it is FAST RAM that is disappearing, and I'd
- like to know just *what* the memory munchers are, and how much memory they
- are using - so I can make intelligent decisions on what to delete for optimum
- performance.
-
- I've discovered the CLI commands "avail" and "status" as well as the shareware
- program ARTM, but none of those will tell me just how MUCH memory is being
- taken up by each individual item. :<
-
- Also...
-
- Is there a way to get programs to RELEASE all of the memory they snatch when you
- load them? It's frustrating to have 900K, load a program that takes 150K and
- only releases 100K of it when you close it, leaving 50K still in memory that
- can't be accessed. :< This plays havoc with Pagestream when I want to work
- with large files or graphics and the memory that was there earlier is now
- unavailable... :<
-
- And I noticed that running "status" munched a bunch of memory and didn't
- let go of it when I exited the shell.
-
- I *know* I can just buy some more Ram and solve the above problems, but money
- is tight right now, and I'd like to learn where my memory is going...
-
- Thanks...
