- Comes with pads, but no socket.

-
- With IDE, the controller is built into the drive, so the computer doesn't
- need one. The floppy model does have the IDE interface, so you can add an HD.

- All true.

-
- Has room on the back for a port of whatever sort connected to the internal
- 32-bit expansion card. If you had added a SCSI card (none are available yet,
- that I know of), it would have its external DB25 connector here.

-
- The IDE interface is a bus standard and is not meant to be able to drive
- external peripherals. Yes, the cable would be too long and the environment
- may be too noisy.

-
- No, as I said, the controller is built into the drive. The interface
- electronics (much simpler than a controller) were incorporated into a gate
- array.

-
- No, CDTV is PCMCIA 1.0, while the A600/A1200 use the newer 2.0 standard.
-

-
- No, the A500 trapdoor is only 16-bit.

-
- No, they're surface mounted and have the same (lack of) protection.

-
- Because the A1200 uses an EC020, only 8M of fast RAM can be added. If the
- PCMCIA slot is in use, this reduces to 4M. However, an accellerator added
- in the internal slot can have as much ram as you can cram onto it (at least,
- I don't think we'll see 4GB on a board that size for a while yet! :-)

-
- You'll have to wait for a SCSI interface to become available.

- Hopefully, my facts are straight. What I've written here I've gleaned from
- the net.
