- The machine is actually the Computerized Speech Lab (CSL), which is a
- combination of software and peripheral hardware for 80x86 machines
- running MS-DOS. It's really quite an effective tool for sampling,
- playback, analysis and synthesis of speech. I haven't used it much
- myself, but I've seen it used, and it struck me as an impressive setup
- for speech research, especially given the fairly low budget required
- to get everything you need. The DSP 5500 is something quite
- different, I think, and perhaps not as versatile.
