- Bit of a strategic puzzle. Our management here is *contemplating*
- making mail a "free" service to our users, in part to make it more
- universal on our campus. This would mean providing "free" accounts
- (pretty easy) for "new" users, and also perhaps for existing users.
- I'm wondering about doing it "better" for existing users. Is there
- any way to capture resource usage for the use of a specific image so
- that account credits can be created? Or is there any way that an
- image can suspend the capture of accounting data until image rundown?
- Or any other way to accomplish this (short of running a separate machine)?
- This is a thought exercise for now. It is not clear that we will
- go ahead with this, and if we do it may not be on a VMS platform. But
- if it is, how would *you* go about implementing such a scheme?
- Please post your comments; I'd rather not run a dozen email discussions
- with cross-mailings about this. Is it doable (easitl?) in VMS? Might a
- *nix os provide a better atmosphere to do it successfully? Thanks for
- your ideas. b.
