  25. I *WAS* constructive.  I pointed out which set of manuals he needs to look at,
  26. I pointed out that he needed to use AUTOGEN, and I pointed out that he's
  27. completely incompetent at this sort of work.  What more could you ask?  Given
  28. that he's been posting for two months and *STILL* doesn't seem to realize that
  29. when you've got a set of settable parameters, that means that they need to be
  30. set differently for different situations, and you've got to specify what you
  31. want to accomplish before anybody can recommend settings for them, he just
  32. doesn't have the right attitude to be a system manager.  Of course, I could've
  33. told him:
  34.     1)  Do a conversational boot;
  35.     2)  At the SYSBOOT> prompt, issue the commands:
  36.         SYSBOOT>SET/DEFAULT
  37.         SYSBOOT>CONTINUE
  38. After all, the SET/DEFAULT command to SYSBOOT is expressly for the purpose of
  39. letting someone boot an unidentified system with unidentified needs (which, as
  40. it happens, is exactly the problem Sabry presented to us, now wasn't it?);  The
  41. resultant settings will generally be useless, of course, but they're guaranteed
  42. by DEC to succeed in booting *ANY* supported system.

  47. understanding of astronomy is purely at the amateur level (or below).  So
  48. unless what I'm saying is directly related to VAX/VMS, don't hold me or my
  49. organization responsible for it.  If it IS related to VAX/VMS, you can try to
  50. hold me responsible for it, but my organization had nothing to do with it.
