  16. Most or all of the SCSI tape makers do not make *ANY* drivers and we are no 
  17. exception. This is baecause we are standard via SCSI, and unlike other tape
  18. manufacturers test our drives *CONSTANTLY* for compatibility with other
  19. makers. The drivers are the providence of the software makers.

  25. Well, first note that boot back to DOS mode to perform backup. This is 
  26. a personal decision. I don't trust the "locked file workaround" for os/2 just
  27. yet (boy, bet I'll hear about that one :). Also, I am moving towards a 
  28. literal backup system because of difficulties I have described here (a backup
  29. that literally dumps all the sectors on the drive to tape including the 
  30. partition sector).
  31. The only tape software I have tried under os/2 2.0 is GNU TAR, and it is well
  32. documented in the GTAK package on hobbes. It also says that an ADAPTEC 1540
  33. is all that has been tested using the drivers :(, but I beleive that any
  34. controller able to run an ASPI mode interface should work.

  36. Here are the relivant sections of CONFIG.SYS:

  38.    basedev=aha154x.add --> obtained from ADAPTEC, the ASPI for os/2 driver.
  39.    basedve=scsitape.dmd tape$0 0 s2 --> comes with GTAR
  40.    set tape=+++tape$0
  41.    set tapemode=2 --> sets scsi interface to SCSI-II

  43. I beleive that scsitape.dmd will operate atop any aspi driver, but I'm not
  44. going to bet the farm on it. Since the full source of GTAR is avalible, it
  45. should not be too hard to figgure out. Good luck !
