- Orville,
- I have a similar system operating here. I use an Adaptec 1542B on
- my 486/50 with the following devices:
-
- Internal Seagate 316mb SCSI Drive at ID0 (Terminated)(End of cable)
- Internal Syquest 88mb removable drive at ID1 (Not Terminated)
- Internal 1542B controller card at ID7 (Default, NOT TERMINATED)
- External Wangtek 5150ES tape drive at ID4 (Terminated)
-
- With the above setup, if the external tape drive is removed from
- the 1542b, I must fit a SCSI terminator to the outside of the 1542b.
-
- Set the tape drive to ID4 (Unix standard) and the CD-ROM drive to
- ID6 (Again Unix standard). Leave ID0,1,2 & 3 for hard disks. Ensure
- that if the tape drive is external, that the terminators are removed
- from the 1542b.
-
- Also make sure that the boot device is the end of the SCSI chain
- and is terminated.
-
- GTAK201B works perfectly on the above setup. SCSI is not as
- simple as people think, and there are some rules that need to be
- followed when setting them up.
-
- Hope this helps,
-
- Chris
