- Well, I've been toying with checking out OS/2 for a month or so and I just
- bit the bullet and ordered the 2.1 CD from IBM (hey, it's worth $15 to at
- least LOOK at it).
-
- Well, the lady on the phone said it should ship in the next
- week-and-a-half so I've got two weeks to get psyched up for this thing.
-
- So, my question is, can anyone point me to some documents that detail what
- I should to my system prior to install? (ie, how much room needs to be
- where, what drives need to be partitioned what ways, which gods should I
- pray to, etc).
-
- Here is what I have on my system:
- 386-25 cpu
- 8 megs memory
- 105mb IDE Drive C:
- 120mb IDE Drive D:
- AMDEK Laserdrive (x2) CD-ROM (yes, two of them)
- WD/Paradise VGA w/ 512k
- Generic VGA monitor
- SoundBlaster
-
- In any case, I seriously doubt that the CDRom drives will be compatible
- with OS/2 (although they do use a Hitachi driver so who knows). I'll
- probably create the install floppies in DOS and then install from floppy
- (groan).
-
- Any suggestions would be great. I do want to work with the HPFS file
- system at some point. Should I partition Drive D: (which has the most
- space on it) in some ways to do this? Right now, drive C: has 40 megs and
- D: has 80 megs. I could free up A LITTLE more on C:, but probably only
- about 10 megs without totally having to change the system around.
-
- Can OS/2 boot from Drive D:? Could it operate successfully in 40 megs + a
- D: partition?
-
- In any case, suggestions, pointers, words of advice, etc are greatly
- appreciated. As always, flames will be giggled at.
-
- Thanks
