  11. What is the story ?

  13.    Having installed OS/2 (various versions) on a brand-new IBM-PC
  14.    with XGA-2 (ALF-type). Obviously something is wrong with it as
  15.    it comes up with errors like "cannot demand-load segment * ->
  16.    DOSCALL1.DLL", "application caused an illegal semaphore lock" etc.

  18.    Sometimes it hangs hard and I have to cold-boot it.

  20.    Now, the "funny" thing: All of a sudden, CHKDSK would not repair
  21.    my F:-drive which is HPFS (and has tons of important data).

  23.    This is what happens:

  25.        CHKDSK F: /F

  27.        ChkDsk warns me that data could be lost, I agree in order to
  28.        proceed, immediately thereafter I get a message
  29.  
  30.        "**********  ChkDsk attempting to write sector 0
  31.         **********  Contact BillMc or MarkH to debug"
  32.  
  33.    Who is BillMc resp. MarkH ???
  34.  
  35.    How can I get in touch with them (am sitting in overseas, Europe/
  36.    Austria) ? Any phone numbers ? Any instructions ?

  38.    Has anyone any ideas ? I need access to that drive to move my stuff over
  39.    to a new machine during the holidays.

  42.    P.S.: If I say "CHKDSK F:" *without* specifying the fix-paramter "/F",
  43.          then 2.00.1 German tells me, that there are "erroneous status
  44.          information in the temporary assignment pool" (actually the
  45.          original text is in German and reads: "Fehlerhafte Statusinformationen
  46.          im temporaeren Zuordnungspool wurden von CHKDSK korrigiert.
  47.          Die fehlerhafte Datei \ORACLE6\CGEN\MENUS\CGM3.SQL wurde von CHKDSK
  48.          entfernt."
  49.          Additionally I get some drive-infos:

  58.     P.P.P.S.: Testing the drive with GammaTech finds no errors reading all of
  59.          my 616.448 sectors.
