  14. hello,
  15. I'm having trouble installing Windows 3.1 (and 3.0) on a 386 clone.
  16. When the Setup is supposed to switch to graphics mode it quits with
  17. the following message:

  19. Standard Mode: Fault in MS-DOS extender
  20. EC = ... (register contents)
  21.  
  22. I've tried about everything:
  23. - installation on a clean disk (partitioned/formatted) goes well but
  24.   as soon as other software is installed Windows startup failes with
  25.   or without the above message
  26. - checked Windows software 
  27. - replaced hard disk
  28.  
  29. any suggestions?
