- Summary: Mouse goes haywire
- Keywords: windows mouse
-
- We have been experiencing a problem with Windows 3.1 where the mouse goes
- haywire. It becomes super-sensitive to movement in one direction and
- un-sensitive to movement in the other direction. It also appears to start
- sending spontanious mouse clicks. As a result the mouse jumps all over the
- screen and causes windows to popup, close, change size, and generally cause
- chaos. The condition can only be cleared by exiting Windows and restarting.
- No other operations in Windows are affected.
-
- We have seen this problem occur on a variety of machines including Commodore
- 386/dx/sx/16/20/25, and Compaqs. We use Microsoft and Commodore mice and
- run Novell Netware v3.11 on all machines.
-
- The software setup is :
- EMM386.EXE
- HIMEM.SYS
- MOUSE.SYS version 8.20
- DOS v5 loaded HIGH,UMB
- IPX version 3.10
- NETX version 3.26
- Windows 3.1
- WinWord 2.0b
- Excel 4
-
-
- The problem happens two or three times a month on our network of 430 machines.
- We have not been able to find a way of reproducing it, apart from noticing
- that holding down the shift key while moving the mouse can trigger it.
-
- Microsoft Technical Support have never heard of this problem before and
- where not able to offer any reason for it happening.
-
- Has anyone else experienced a similar problem? It would appear to be a
- bug in the Windows mouse driver but it is very hard to isolate it if I
- can't reproduce the problem at will.
