- The appearance of the syambol 'R' to denote real numbers is not unique.
- It varies from book to book. Most mathematics books would have the
- shape you've described, but some other books have the sahpe which is
- neither like an R with an extra line on the left nor the R given
- in the symbol font set at the 0194 position. It seems to me that,
- this particular shape or R at 0194 is a creation of Microsoft.
-
- Two points to note here.
-
- 1. The previous claim was that 'there is no such R character in the
- symbol font set that can be used to represent real numbers.' At
- that point I suggested to try the outlined prescription before
- making such a blunt comment. However, now the claim is this R is
- not the one used most often (!).
- I have used that R from the symbol font in my thesis to represent
- real number and I passed. I never thought the committee didn't
- know how a 'Re' symbol looks like. Probably I went lucky, huh?
-
- 2. Character 0193 and 0194 in the symbol font set can be used to
- represent imaginary (I) and real (R) numbers. Actually there are
- few other symbols around this region of the font that are used
- in the set theory. What one has to be careful about is the
- character alt+194 and the character alt+0194 are NOT the same!
- One must press the zero and then the 3 digit code to get the
- correct symbol.

- I must point out that I don't have enough idle time to spend for
- this pointless matter. Your constructive comments are welcome but
- I'll probably have to refrain myself from reciprocating unless
- it is something worth. I yelled 'Shut up' to my friend, but now
- have to take her lunch. I wish people practised what they'd like
- to preach (think!).
