- An acquaintance of mine has an old XT running an ancient version of DOS
- (2.x). An electrical outtage occurred. When the power was restored the
- machine wouldn't reboot from the hard drive; after rebooting from a
- floppy it was apparent that major portions of the hard drive were
- damaged. She executed CHKDSK /F.
-
- Questions:
-
- 1. Would the Norton Utilties be of any use after a CHKDSK /F ?
-
- 2. I suggested that she BACKUP and COPY any and all undamaged
- directories and files to floppies and then reformat the
- disk and install DOS 5.0. Would she be able to COPY and
- RESTORE files from those DOS 2.0 floppies onto a DOS 5.0
- hard disk?
-
- Please respond via e-mail. Thanks in advance.
