- Hi all,
-
- this MINIX thang sounds interesting and I definitely think I might order the
- demo disc for Atari ST. However I am a bit unsure on a few points...
-
- - how does MINIX relate to MiNT and MultiTOS? From what I have read here it
- would seem that MINIX has its own multitasking kernel. Does it run parallel
- to the desktop (like MiNT), or do I say goodbye to the desktop altogether?
- (To say nothing of GEMINI).
-
- - a recent posting by an Amiga owner implied that the 680x0 version of MINIX
- only works for sufficiently small x. This would kill off my plans to upgrade
- to a 68030 by means of Dave Small's SST and/or the Falcon.
-
- - am I buying into any useful amount of parallelism? That is, given the
- necessary processing power, can I run foreground programs while performing
- a file transfer in background, etc. (just like under TOS :-))?
-
- - will there be a v2.0 for Atari (and when?... ;-/)
-
- I would be grateful for comments from anyone who knows both MiNT and MINIX.
-
- Regards,
- Chris
