] I know i've just replied to this message telling you how wonderfully the
] new binary has been working, but I've just installed SLS 0.99.1 and now I
] can't get the X8514 binary to work... Each time I try to run it, I get an
] error message to the effect of:

]                  (something about not finding font 'fixed')

] and then it aborts.  It appears to try to get to the X opening screen, as
] it flashes blue for a millisecond before dumping back to the prompt.  I
] have set the FontPath variable in the Xconfig file just as it is shown in
] the error message (changing FontPath in Xconfig changes the error message),
] and a brief inspection shows that font 'fixed' is a file called 6x13___.psf
] (don't forget what the ___ is... maybe nothing) that _is_ in my
] .../fonts/misc directory.

] I can get the X386mono binary to work at 800x600 very well.  If I can get
] the 8514 server running, I might switch to mono for 1280x1024 operation, if
] I can pull it off (I know my Vantage can do it in 8514 mode... I ran

I think the included letter covers it... If anyone recognises these symptoms
or knows intuitively what is wrong with my system, could you lend a newbie a
hand?  (for that matter, anyone with a two-bit opinion is welcome to
answer... :)
