- I recently posted requesting information on using Linux on 340/677 mb esdi
- drives. I'd like to thank everyone who responded about it. However,
- I think that I might need to make something a little bit clearer, and
- see if anyone can respond...
-
- There is a barrier that one hits, when trying to use disk drives that
- are greater than 512MB. The UltraStor 12F card that I use can get
- around some of the limitations, but then it's up to the operating system
- for the rest of the support.
-
- I did have a problem with inode sizing; making the 677 mb drive a single
- unix partition left me with playing with the mkfs parameters for the
- 677 mb drive, eventually winding up with having a max of 1253152 blocks, for
- supporting 211744 files max. the parameters for the drive are as follows
- from my /etc/partitions file:
-
- disk01:
- heads = 15, cyls = 1630, sectors = 54, bpsec = 512
- vtocsec = 29, altsec = 30, boot = "/etc/boot", device = "/dev/rdsk/1s0",
-
- I'm not sure if the EFS system of Linux would support a single large file
- structure being greater than 512Mb with ESDI.
-
- Please let me know if such is or is not the case.
-
- thanks again
