- Coherent is a unix clone. It's not unix. There are around 200
- similar commands between the two, but there isnt any networking except
- uucp, and there are a number of different things. If you dont have a
- heap of money around and want to learn unix, give it a try. It requires
- 640K and 10MB of space and can be had for $99. There is some decent
- software for it, but I dont know if you are trying to actually use
- regular unix software or just get used to it. I have some experience
- with a few different NeXT models and am trying to force myself to buy
- Univel Unixware. I have a var kit from them and am about to buy it.
- There are going to be differences between any unix system. Unix,
- Xenix,MINIX, Solaris, X windows, all of that....it can be compared to
- different versions of dos if you want a simple comparison such as IBM
- dos, ms dos, dr dos, but the differences do not stop there. A nice thing
- about coherent is it is cheap and I believe the c compiler is free. If
- you can get linux, do it. But if 99 bucks isn't much to you, its a good
- training tool to get coherent. Let me know if you would like some
- coherent info.
