- I am having no luck in getting the XS3 server to work with my new
- Actix GE32. The card is brand new and I have tried v0.1 and 0.2b of
- the Linux Xs3 server. This is not a timing problem. The server runs
- and I get a crisp centered screen. Of course I've uncompressed my
- fonts and made sure that virtual 1024x768 is all over my Xconfig :-).
-
- The problem is, part of the screen is corrupted. I know about the
- cache conflict and my virtual is set correctly. When the server boots
- up, the left side of the screen is okay, but the right side repeats
- slices of itself. It looks sorta like a timing problem but everything
- on the screen is steady and clear, and the mouse cursor does not
- exhibit this problem. That is the mouse cursor does not get corrupted
- and begin to repeat itself as it is moved to the right of the screen.
- All other windows do.
-
- Furthermore, although the fist window to get put on the screen has
- the correct title-bar font, subsequent windows have the font in the
- title-bar corrupted *shrug*. In addition if I have two separate
- 1024x768 modes in my Xconfig, and I switch beetween them with
- "ctrl-alt-+" I sometimes find that my virtual screen is now longer
- than 768 pixels and I can scroll down and see what can only be the
- font cache.
-
- Also if I put the line "Virtual 1150x900" in my Xconfig I get an
- error about how the screen must have a width of 1024 and cannot be
- longer that 768. But I can put the line "Virtual 768x1024" and nothing
- happens. In fact the program starts and I see the same strange
- behavior on the screen. Perhaps the server is parsing the Xconfig
- incorrectly?
-
- I have tried many timing configurations, and I do not think this
- is where the problem lies. I am using Linux 99p2, and the new shared
- libs. Perhaps I should try a recompile with 2.3.3? Could someone point
- me towards the source for XS3-0.2b? When I try to use 0.1, the server
- freezes as soon as twm takes over. One strange thing tho. 0.1 produces
- the X stipple pattern on bootup, 0.2b just gives me a black screen
- with the mouse cursor. I am using linux on a 486/50 with 16megs of
- RAM.
-
- Ahh well, this message got a little long. Thanks for reading if
- you got this far :-). Any help would be greatly appreciated. I find
- the whole thing confusing because as I understood it the Actix GE 32
- was something of a de-facto standard amongst the people developing
- X-S3. Perhaps the card has undergone some design changes? Anyway,
- thanks again.
