- This is a repost of a previous problem - there was no posted solution
- and my mail to the person bounced. I have the same problem with both the
- SLS 0.98.5 created boot disk and a new boot disk from 0.99.2:
-
- Last week I've tried to upgrade to 98p6 by recompiling the new kernel and
- making a new bootdisk (yes, I don not use Lilo) ... compiling was fine, but
- when I tried to boot from the new disk I've got the following:
-
- (after recognizing my SCSI disk correctly ...)
- general protection: 0000
- EIP: 0008:0004C461
- EFLAGS: 00010286
- fs: 0017
- base: C0000000, limit 000A0000
- PID: 0, process nr: 0
- C7 02 00 00 00 00 A1 68 FF 04
- task[0] (swapper) killed - unable to recover
- kernel panic: trying to free up swapper memory space
- in swapper task - not syncing
-
- Then it all halts ... I've tried the 99 version, too - with the same
- result. But I can boot it from my old 98p5 bootdisk ...
-
- Is there a way to get 98p6 or 99 running ? My machine is a 486 with
- 8 meg RAM and a SCSI disk on an AHA1542B
-
- Please, is there any solution ? Maybe something has changed for compiling
- the kernel from 98p5 to 98p6 ? Any options etc. ?

-
- Thanks for any help.
