- I am trying to configure sendmail to forward mail over a SLIP link
- to our campus mail router. Everything works fine if mail is sent
- FROM the campus mail router over the SLIP link to the local node.
- In addition, mail messages of a few lines are correctly sent from
- the local node over the SLIP link to the campus mail router.
- Unfortunately when mail messages of more than ten lines (somewhere
- between 500 to 1000 bytes [yes bytes]), the computers properly
- connect, but they then time out. I have sent mail using
- "mail -v" and have seen the correct connection being made, but
- then nothing happens until a time out occurs. Since very
- short messages are sent properly, I am at a loss.
-
- The error message on the campus mail router (system that is
- receiving the mail) is as follows:
-
- Jan 9 11:11:28 turing sendmail[2764]: collect: unexpected close on
- connection from noether.fmn.cornell-iowa.edu: Connection reset by peer
- Jan 9 11:11:28 turing sendmail[2764]: AA02764: SYSERR: collect:
- unexpected close, from=<root@Cornell-Iowa.edu>: Connection reset by
- peer during collect with noether.fmn.cornell-iowa.edu
-
- The error message on the local node (system that is sending the
- mail) is as follows:
-
- Jan 9 11:05:31 noether sendmail[1100]: AA01096: to=freeman@Cornell-Iowa.edu,
- delay=00:08:41, stat=Deferred: Connection timed out during result wait
- with turing.csc.cornell-iowa.edu
-
- Does anyone have any idea of what these error messages mean?
- Any help would be greatly appreciated since I am at a loss.
-
- Please respond to freeman@Cornell-Iowa.edu since I am using
- an account I rarely log into to make this post. Unfortunately
- this is the only way I can post to this news group.
-
- Thank you!
