- I've been a long time user of gnuplot and I think it's a wonderful
- package. Almost the only graphing package I use. However, one thing
- that has annoyed me lately is setting the size of the plot. I use
- latex, epsf, and ps output mostly. The problem is that each output
- device has some default output size which is incredibly hard to
- remember. Having the 'set size' command specify scaling is no help if
- you don't remember the original sizes.
-
- There HAS to be a better solution. Some possiblities:
-
- 1. Have "set size" set the actual graph size.
- 2. Set the default size for all outputs to be the same.
- 3. Have some way of inquiring the output size so it can
- be changed inside a script as appropriate.
-
- Any other ideas? I like 1 or 3 myself.
-
- On a similar line, sometimes I'd like to get square output so that
- circles come out as circles, not ellipses, and squares are square, not
- rectangles. I know you can do this by scaling the plot size
- appropriately, but, of course, that changes with the output device.
- However, as I understand it, the scaling is for the whole plot
- including space for the title, the labels, and the tics. This is
- probably also a function of the output device.
-
- It would be nice if there were some way of specifying square plots.
- One interim solution is to document somewhere exactly how much space
- is used by each part of the graph so that I can compute what the
- scaling should be to get square plots. Certainly better than nothing.
-
- Any suggestions on this?
-
- From a user's viewpoint, these are very nice features to have.
- I'd much rather have these done than being able to read binary files
- or doing data computations inside gnuplot.
-
- Anyway, just some random thoughts. Thanks for listening (or not as
- the case may be)!

- P.S. Does anyone use the pstricks terminal driver posted a while ago?
- I'm just curious how people like it. No news is good news, eh!?!
