-
- The highest recordable resolution on a stock amiga is using an AGA based
- machine and the "perfect for video" ~1300x480 mode (including overscan).
- This mode has a 24bit palette (16.8M colors) and can be displayed in the
- Ham-8 mode which uses an 8bitplane screen to display a theoretical number
- of colors that almost matches the number of pixels. This is also supposed
- to be as `animatable' as all the other modes, but I have not seen this yet.
-
- A Toaster equiped Amiga has a 24bit D2 quality 752x480 buffer (2 of them
- actually) and Ligthwave will render a 1500x960 pic and display it at
- an antialiased 752x480. note: Lighwave will also render a 3000x???? pic
- for print and film.
-
- The A1200 and A4000 are currently the only AGA based machines that have
- been released. On an ECS based A2000/A3000/A500/A600 your max resolution
- is 1280x480 but with a much reduced number of colors. Perfect for character
- generation but not rendering. Original Ham6 screens are 350+ x 480 with
- 4096 colors out of 4096. Hires screens are 768x480 with 16 colors out of
- 4096, so you can see that on a stock machine... AGA is the way to go!
-
- There are a number of other options from the inexpensive hardware add ons
- such as DCTV, HamE, Avideo-24/12, OpalVision, all the way to the expensive
- 'realtime' 24/32 bit boards.
-
- note: None of these specs include modes/resolutions that are not made for
- going to tape such as the AGA 800x600 or any of the other hi-res boards
- ment for Xwindows work and such.
