- This is an added incentive to stay away from 8-bit images
- altogether. I loathe GIF files now that good-quality JPEG files
- are more-readily available and I'm able to appreciate them on my
- 24-bit display at home. What's bad is some JPEGs are converted
- from GIF, which is not what JPEG files were intended for. Having
- a JPEG file made from an original 24-bit scanned tiff file is as
- good as having the tiff itself, at a fraction of the size.

- That's because most people out in netland have an 8-bit display.
- No conversion (quantizing) of 24-bit down to 8-bit is necessary
- if full-color display hardware is available. People won't have
- 8-bit video forever, and I see the trend going towards 24-/32-bit
- video in the near future. The trend is JPEG; GIF will die soon
- enough. Why aren't there any more 16-color EGA dithered GIFs
- anymore??
