- I tried sending this out via the mailing list but never saw it come
- back and no answers so I thought I'd try via news:
-
- Not being very conversant with NetBios, maybe someone has an idea on
- how to proceed with this. We have a group of ethernet lans at one site
- which are connected to various ports on an AGS router. Some of these
- ethernets have Novell file servers on them which need to be accessed from
- other lans which may have no file server at all. I configured up the
- IPX routing per the manual and it worked like a charm, simple and easy,
- took off and ran - I keep being amazed by cisco stuff, I should have known
- by now(!) 8-)
-
- Anyway, for the IPX stuff everything seems fine, the catch is that on
- one of the file servers is a Racal-Interlan gateway. This allows PCs to
- access TCP/IP thru a file server. The catch is that altho it uses the
- Novell fileserver to store/load up the files to the pc for things like
- telnet, ftp etc., the actual traffic between the telnet process on the
- PC and the gateway software on the server is NetBios. This is where I
- get lost, it appears that NetBios is only bridgeable. Is that correct?
- If so, it would seem we either turn on bridging (yuck - how?) or we have
- to interconnect the lans with bridges or hubs or something, we will not
- be able to have different lans on different router interfaces.
-
- I know we could give each PC an IP address and go that route but the
- gateway solves some addressing problems and makes our life (usually)
- simpler. It also exists and is cheaper than some of the other schemes.
- Is there a way to get that NetBios traffic thru along with the
- IPX? Or should I be looking for another solution?
-
- Thanks for any help ....
-
- Bob
-
- p.s. We don't have bridging software currently, so that would be an
- $1800 expense without discounts....
