  21.    Your friend is mistaken.  The V-9600 uses a modulation which is based on, 
  22. but not compatible with, V.32.  I understand that for some time there was a 
  23. possibility that it would be standardized as V.32HDX (half duplex V.32), but 
  24. it never happened and a Hayes V-Series Smartmodem 9600 will speak at high 
  25. speed only to another of its kind.
