- Yes, given the appropriate software, you can use the 400e on any other
- machine. I use my 400e on my NeXT as a data modem all the time. You will;
- however, find it difficult to acquire a Class 1 fax driver for most UNIX
- and UNIX-like machines. The 400e is a Class 1 fax modem which means the
- computer must do all the fax protocol stuff itself and the modem just sends
- the data down the phone lines. There's a lot of tricky timing in the Class 1
- spec that is tough to handle on most UNIX systems, so there aren't many
- Class 1 drivers around for UNIX. If you can get a Class 1 driver for your
- machine, the 400e "should" work. Be warned that any given Class 1 driver may
- not work with all Class 1 fax modems. You just have to try it...
-
- Hope that helps.
