- I've recently installed a Scout+ on a SPARC and had a problem calling
- into it.
-
- Whenever I call into the modem from a remote (another Scout+ in
- some cases), I have negoitation/handshake problems. The
- manifestations of the problem vary, but the most common failure mode
- is that the modem negoitates after carrier detect and seems to decide
- on something, then stops sending a carrier signal. The calling
- modem gets confused and the connection is dropped.
-
- Various other modems have attempted to call in and had the same
- problems, even at low baud rates. I tried substituting a PPI
- modem for the Scout+ and found the problems went away.
- I suspect a noisy power source for the SPARC's modem, and
- will be trying a relatively good surge protector/EMI/RFI filter
- to attempt to fix the problem.
-
- Has anyone else had power source noise sensitivity problems with
- their modems?
