- Manuals for any Hayes product can be purchased for a nominal fee
- through Hayes Customer Service at 404-441-1617. We also have an
- office in Waterloo (where you appear to be); the number there is
- 519-746-5000.

-
- The V-series Smartmodem 9600 uses a modulation scheme that is, in
- some respects (such as the signal encoding), similar to V.32, but it
- is not compatible with CCITT V.32 modems. The V-series modulation,
- known as Express 96, uses V.32 signalling in a half-duplex,
- fast-turnaround, ping-pong mode, rather than the full-duplex
- modulation with echo cancellation used in V.32-compliant modems.
-
- Some Hayes modems, such as the Ultra 96 and Ultra 144, support both
- standard V.32 and Express 96, but it sounds like you have one of the
- original V-series 9600 modems that supports only Express 96 above
- 2400 bit/s. It will fall back to V.22bis at 2400 bit/s to
- communicate with non-Hayes modems.
