- My office at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia would like to establish
- a wireless ethernet connection with another office building that is across
- a busy street somewhere between a quarter mile and a half mile away,
- clearly visible via line of sight. The university refuses to trench
- between the two for various reasons including cost and disruption of
- traffic. Hence we'd like to know all there is to know about wireless
- ethernet products. I have called Motorola and asked about Altair, called
- ATS and asked about their products, called Windata and asked about theirs,
- and tried to reach NCR to ask about WaveLAN. I'm not experienced in this
- but I have a feeling from talking to a couple people that I'm barking up
- the wrong tree in contacting people who make wireless LANs since they may
- not be capable of connecting two buildings a half mile apart. If you can
- suggest other people to call, I'd appreciate it. If we can get a package
- that will provide reliable, high-speed service, we'll buy it.
