- Hello,
-
- I've a question that I just can't seem to get a solid answer regarding
- IOCP path defintions and would appreciate any information or direction.
-
- We took our 3705 out, which then free'd up channel 0. The CHPID macro
- for channel 0 was defined as TYPE=BY when the 3705 was on. Now we want
- to use the channel for 3480's and use TYPE=BL, but in the IOCP users
- guide it states 'MVS system generation requires TYPE=BY for channel
- number 0'. Even before I read that statement, I remembered something
- about channel 0 having to be defined as TYPE=BY, but I don't know
- why. Also in the manual, the 'summary of I/O config rules' says that
- TYPE=BL/BY are parallel channel paths and that all parallel channel
- paths can be specified as BL. Other than the above statments, I've
- not been able to find anything specific about channel 0 requirements.
-
- All this came about when we could not attach the new tape drives to
- any VM id, so I thought maybe the TYPE operand may have something to
- do with it.
-
- Our environment is VM/ESA with MVS/ESA running under it. The 3480's
- are currently only defined to VM at this time.
-
- Thanks again,
- Keith
