  19. Purdue University invites applications and nominations for Head
  20. of the Department of Educational Studies in the School of
  21. Education.  Purdue University is a research-oriented, land-grant
  22. public university with approximately 36,000 students on the main
  23. campus.  Located at West Lafayette, Indiana, Purdue University is
  24. a member of the Holmes Group.

  26. The School of Education was formed in 1989 from the previous
  27. Department of Education.  Faculty have demonstrated a strong
  28. commitment to scholarship and professional preparation.  The
  29. School is comprised of two departments--Educational Studies and
  30. Curriculum & Instruction--and is NCATE and state accredited.  The
  31. Department of Educational Studies offers programs at the
  32. baccalaureate level in Special Education, and at the master's,
  33. education specialist, and doctoral levels in Special Education,
  34. Foundations and Administration, Educational Psychology and
  35. Research Methodology, and Counseling and Development.  There are
  36. 33 faculty in the department.

  38. Applicants must hold an earned doctorate; possess a record of
  39. teaching, service and scholarship commensurate with appointment
  40. at the rank of Professor within the Department; have
  41. administrative experience and a demonstrated capacity for
  42. leadership; and have a commitment to an administrative career.
  43. Specifically, the position requires a creative leader whose style
  44. is conducive to consultation and collaboration.  The faculty are
  45. committed to a strategic planning process, with an emphasis on
  46. professional development schools, leadership in technology, and
  47. the continuation and strengthening of our research community.
  48. The starting date for the position is July 1, 1993.  Screening of
  49. applications will begin February 1, 1993 and continue until the
  50. position is filled.

  52. Applicants must submit a statement of interest in the position
  53. that expresses their conception of their own major strengths as a
  54. potential Head of this Department of Educational Studies, and
  55. addresses how their experiences and professional goals will shape
  56. their leadership as Head.  Applicants must also include a
  57. curriculum vitae, the names and addresses of at least four
  58. references, and reprints of two scholarly works.  Applications
  59. from women and members of minority groups are especially
  60. encouraged.
