- Truly. The doublespeak during times of US invasion is remarkably like that
- of 1984. (And this is not an anti-US sentiment but and anti-US
- military/industrial complex sentiment.)
-
- But where the film of 1984 fails is in it's realisation of Orwells world
- (IMHO). 1984 is at least partly allegorical, and so the physical
- manifestation of symbols and metaphors is inevitably disappointing. In our
- current age the time of writing of 1984 means that visually its world is
- far too grey and terrible for it to be accepted as real. (Although in a
- world where Pol Pot can reign and a good porportion of the East German
- population work for the secret police, is 1984 that far-fetched?).
-
- Thankfully, the makers of 1984 decided not to use the Eurythmics
- soundtrack. A blow to their fans certainly, but a more inappropriate
- musical treatment would be difficult to imagine.
