  22. Truly. The doublespeak during times of US invasion is remarkably like that
  23. of 1984. (And this is not an anti-US sentiment but and anti-US
  24. military/industrial complex sentiment.)

  26. But where the film of 1984 fails is in it's realisation of Orwells world
  27. (IMHO). 1984 is at least partly allegorical, and so the physical
  28. manifestation of symbols and metaphors is inevitably disappointing. In our
  29. current age the time of writing of 1984 means that visually its world is
  30. far too grey and  terrible for it to be accepted as real. (Although in a
  31. world where Pol Pot can reign and a good porportion of the East German
  32. population work for the secret police, is 1984 that far-fetched?).

  34. Thankfully, the makers of 1984 decided not to use the Eurythmics
  35. soundtrack. A blow to their fans certainly, but a more inappropriate
  36. musical treatment would be difficult to imagine.
