- | Now, if you're just dying to know what INFJ stands for, be brave, e-mail me,

-
- Aside from one fellow who just thought it was a lame posting (I'm of
- the opposite opinion--I think it's fairly insightful and represents
- better press than hackers usually get), two people were interested in
- knowing what INFJ stood for.
-
- The fact is, I was just reposting the original posting. I'm *not* a
- Charter Member of the INFJ Club, though I happen to know what "INFJ"
- essentially means. If you want more detail, you want to contact the
- original poster, <noring@netcom.com>.
-
- The Myers-Briggs (sp?) personality classification system categorizes
- people with four binary measures, represented by a four letter
- mnemonic. The classification system does not end there, and there are
- a number of refinements concerning "dominant" characteristics and the
- like.
-
- The first letter, either "I" or "E", stands for "Introverted" or
- "Extroverted". The second letter, either an "N" or an "S" stands for
- "Intuitive" or "Sensing". The third letter, "T" or "F" stands for
- "Thinker" or "Feeler". The final letter, either a "J" or a "P" stands
- for "Judger" or "Perceiver".
-
- I may not have the forms of the terms right, and they have technical
- definitions, so don't try to decode an INFJ as a Intuitive Introvert
- who Feels like Judging.
-
- In a nutshell, the I/E pair has roughly the same meaning it usually
- has in psychological typing (which is more rigorously defined than the
- colloquial use of the terms). The N/S pair deals with how a person
- collects knowledge, though "N" shouldn't be misinterpreted as meaning
- the person relies on gut feeling all the time. The T/F pair deals
- essentially with how emotions factor into the decision-making process.
- Finally, the J/P pair appears to have something to do with planning
- and time allocation. I have never been able to reconcile the "Judger"
- and "Perceiver" terms with their apparent meaning, however.
-
- For the record, I've been tested as an "INTP": classic hacker
- material, evidently. Who'd have thought?
