-
- MSAP$SYMBIONT will talk to LAT devices as well as AppleTalk
- devices. Look in your Pathworks for VMS (Macintosh) "Server
- Administrator's Guide" Chapter 8. Page 8.20 details how to
- connect to a Terminal Server based LaserWriter.

-
- No, you can use the one symbiont, MSAP$SYMBIONT, to run the
- queue. You only need 1 queue and you can print to it from all 3
- platforms. Digital Support, as usual, are spinning you a tale.
-
- The steps to define the service are basically simple;
-
- 1) Define the LAT LTAnnnn device.
- 2) Define the Pathworks for VMS (Macintosh) print service.
- Specify the printer as a LaserWriter. PfVMS will create the
- queue for you.
- 3) Define the Pathworks for VMS (DOS) print service. When it asks
- you for a form name put PS_PLAIN. This is IMPORTANT!
-
- What you will end up with is
-
- PC -------> Pathworks ---
- \
- - VMS queue -> MSAP$SYMBIONT ->LTAnnn
- /
- Mac ------> Pathworks ---
-
- Your Macs will see an AppleTalk Laserwriter and your PC's will
- see a network LPT connection. We tell our PC's they are talking
- to an Apple LaserWriter.
-
- I have had real problems with MSAP$SYMBIONT and spooled LTA
- devices. If MSAP$SYMBIONT fails to recognise your LTAnnn device
- then make sure you
- SET DEVICE LTAnnn /NOSPOOLED
