- Case ISR/PAL 221292
- The International Secretariat of OMCT/SOS-Torture calls upon you to
- intervene on behalf of the following situation in Israel/Occupied
- Territories.
- Brief description of the situation:
- Information received from AL-HAQ, a member of the network of
- SOS-Torture, has drawn our attention to the fact that since the recent
- deportation of some 415 Palestinians from the Occupied Territories,
- the situation remains very tense and a number of people have been
- killed by Israeli troops who have opened fire.
- On 19 December 1992 in Khan Younis City and Refugee Camp, six people
- were killed during demonstrations to protest against these
- deportations. The six include: Rana THARWAT MUHAMMA ABU-TYOUR, aged
- 11 who was shot when fetching milk, Naji SHA'BAN HAMADA AL-NAJJAR, 15,
- Rizeq SALAH-AL-DIN AL-FARRA, 18, Wa'el Muhammad Mahmoud AL-QEISI, 19,
- Adel Fawwaz Awwad ABU-HADAYED, 21 and Maher Saber Salam IMRAN, 23. In
- addition, a further 35 people have reportedly been admitted to Naser
- Hospital in Khan Younis with live ammunition wounds. Of these 35,
- eleven remained in the hospital and some were transferred to Al-Shifa
- Hospital in Gaza City due to a shortage of blood in Naser hospital.
- This incident is not an isolated incident, on the previous day, 18
- December 1992, Omar Said Ali BANAT, 18, was shot dead in Al-Arroub
- Refugee Camp in the West Bank.
- Action requested:
- Please write to the authorities in Israel and the Occupied Territories
- to demand that they take all the necessary measures to put an end to
- violence against the Palestinian population in the Occupied
- Territories and in particular to the indiscriminate use of fire power
- by the Israeli military. Insist that they provide the injured with the
- appropriate medical treatment and that they guarantee their physical
- and psychological integrity at all times. Demand that they open a
- thorough and impartial inquiry into the above incidents in order to
- identify those responsible and punish them in accordance with the law.
- Urge them to ensure the respect for human rights and fundamental
- freedoms at all times.
- Please inform the authorities in your respective countries, the UN,
- the European Community and other inter-governmental and
- non-governmental organisations, urging them to intervene in order to
- put an end to such incidents and to find a peaceful solution to the
- problems in the region.
