- >My Janeil stereo processor arrived and seems to work fine, but I have
- >some questions......
-
- >1) My receiver distinguishes between narrow and wide band. Does the
- >distinction not apply to the Janeil?
-
- The Janeil switches AUTOMATICALLY.
-
- >2) In general, I have been surprised by the weakness of the radio
- >signals I receive, especially the ones not on G5. KLON, from Long
- >Beach on S3, comes in with a good deal of static. Is this simply the
- >price I pay for my 7-foot dish, or is there anything I can do to boost
- >the signal?
-
- I get it fine here with a 10 foot dish and a janeil.
-
- >3) I take it that so-called VC-II stereo is not received by the
- >Janeil. That leads to a problem, since my stereo amplifier only has
- >one set of auxilliary input jacks. How do people handle this?
-
- Rig an external switch, or use an unused connection, such as tape monitor.
- Or purchase a small audio mixer.
-
- >And while I've got you technical wizards on the line....
-
- >I occasionally experience a condition in which transponders 7-10, or
- >some subset of these, fail to be received on all satellites. Does
- >this sound like TI, or my receiver (HTS IV), or something else?
-
- Describe more fully "Fail to be received" Screen black? White? Lines?
- Noise? Pulses? Hiss as if no signal present, or muted. Blue screen? Data
- insufficient to process problem.
-
- If noise and pulses, then TI. If black screen, receiver at fault. If red
- sky in morning, sailor take warning.
-
-
- >Is an improvement in LNB likely to substantially improve performance
- >on weaker satellites (given that 7 foot dish) or would it make more
- >sense to upgrade the dish first? I have forgotton what LNB I have
- >currently, but it's a safe bet that it's nothing special.
-
- You need the best you can get, 25 degree being state of the art for C band.
- If you have a 40 or so (that is what I consider "nothing special") that will
- explain your noisy audio on KLON.
