  88. Usenet/HOMESAT.  The latest ZIPped and UUENCODED South Scanner
  89. Satellite Services Chart can be obtained by Email. If you Email
  90. me, I will send you a copy.  I also have a UNZIP utility for UNIX
  91. that will unzip my chart if you should need one. Another way of
  92. obtaining the chart is by Emailing a mail server. Send a message
  93. to mail-server@ijpc.uucp with  "get ssv2n1.zip" in the message.
  94. The mail server will send you a UUENCODED, ZIPped copy of the
  95. South Scanner Satellite Services Chart.  This chart can also be
  96. obtained in a unique way.  Gary Bourgois has a SDTS (Satellite
  97. Data Text Service) on the Let's Talk Radio network on late
  98. Friday/early Saturday morning.  The SDTS is a one way modem
  99. transmission at 300 baud.  I would like to thank Gary and the
  100. Let's Talk Radio Network (Frank Collins, et al) for putting the
  101. chart on the SDTS service.

  105. Welcome to the South Scanner Satellite Services Chart volume 2
  106. issue 1!  The first anniversary of the chart was November 27.
  107.  
  108. Jay Novello in North Carolina has continued to keep the Atlantic
  109. satellites section updated.  He has updated the listings for the
  110. Intelsats, TDRS, and PanAmSat.  Because some trees lost their
  111. leaves, he has been able to add the Statsionar, Hispasat, and
  112. Telecom II satellites that can be seen from North America.
  113. He also was able to give me the latest listing of SCPC on Galaxy
  114. 2/3 as well as a thorough update of Galaxy 2, Spacenet 2, and
  115. Satcom F2R.
  116.  
  117. There were a lot of additions to this chart.  I went through and
  118. added ATIS frequencies as well as added some of the data
  119. transmission frequencies.  Satcom C3 and Satcom C4 were updated
  120. (they've blossomed with activity since the last South Scanner
  121. Chart came out).  I also took out the note section due to the
  122. chart being long enough.  If you want the type of news that was
  123. in the note section, please listen to TVRO talk shows or read
  124. TVRO newsgroups on computer networks.
  125.  
  126. Philip Dolve in Los Angeles asked for and received permission to
  127. make the electronic South Scanner chart a printout with tables. I
  128. granted him permission because I felt he was doing a beneficial
  129. thing by printing out this chart on paper (especially for some of
  130. the readers who do not have access to a computer).  This was the
  131. first special project for this chart.  Listen to Gary's show,
  132. Friday Night Live, Friday evenings at 9pm ET on Spacenet 3R/21 at
  133. 5.80 MHz to find out if Philip will make the SSV2N1 chart
  134. available in printout form for just the cost of postage and the 8
  135. 1/2 by 11 inch envelope he uses.  I would like to thank Philip
  136. for this service.

  138. The second special project is putting this chart on audio tape
  139. for the benefit of our sight-impaired friends.    I have no problem
  140. getting it on tape -- what I am working on now is how to
  141. distribute the tape to those who want it.  If you have any ideas
  142. on distribution, let me know.  Once I figure out everything, I'll
  143. actually record it on tape and get the distribution going.

  145. Since I am too far west (and also have trees in the way), I
  146. cannot receive the Atlantic Intelsats, TDRS, and PanAmSat.  I am
  147. leaving it up to the east coast readers to keep that section
  148. current.  If you can receive those satellites and see changes in
  149. the services, please let me know and I will update that section
  150. with the information I receive.  If you have a frequency listing
  151. for the Intelsats (most of them don't have one in this chart)
  152. please let me know so I can get it into the chart.

  154. When Intelsats and other such satellites start transmitting to North
  155. America from over the Pacific, I will include those in this chart.  I
  156. have a clean shot to the west, so I should have no problem with
  157. observing those.

  162. Trees at my dish site do not allow for the viewing of signals
  163. from Galaxy 2, Spacenet 2, and Satcom F2.

  205. o/v:  Occasional Video -- Various types of occasional feeds; if a
  206.       primary user is found, I'll change "o/v" to the primary user's
  207.       name.  In this chart, primary users can be mentioned as using an
  208.       transponder on an occasional basis.  Those will be marked by the
  209.       primary user followed by the "o/v" notation.  There will be no
  210.       codes and audio channels for occasional video services without a
  211.       primary user.
  212.  
  213. o/a:  Occasional Audio -- Audio is heard on an occasional
  214.       basis or audio may be present on an occasional basis
  215.  
  216. (none)  I use this to describe a transponder that I have never
  217.         observed video on or a service left (listed in a previous
  218.         South Scanner Satellite Services Chart) and I have not seen
  219.         any video since.
  220.  
  221. UA:   Not Available -- This signal is scrambled with a
  222.       scrambling system that is unavailable to the home dish owner
  223.       in the United States.
  224.  
  225. VC-II:  The video or the channel is scrambled with the General
  226.         Instruments (R) Videocipher II system.  Most of these VC-
  227.         II scrambled channels are available to the home dish owner
  228.         in the United States via subscription.
  229.  
  230. VC-II Plus:  The video or the channel is scrambled with the
  231.              General Instruments (R) Videocipher II Plus System.
  232.              Most of these VC-II Plus scrambled channels are
  233.              available to the home dish owner in the United
  234.              States via subscription.
  235.  
  236. Oak Orion:  The video or the channel is scrambled with the Oak
  237.             Communications (R) [now known as TV Communications
  238.             International] Orion system.  The Oak [TV
  239.             Communications International] Orion scrambled channels
  240.             on the Canadian TV satellites are not available to
  241.             the American home dish owner. Most of the Oak Orion
  242.             scrambled channels are available to Canadian dish
  243.             owners via subscription.
  244.  
  245. BMAC:  The video or the channel is scrambled with the Scientific
  246.        Atlanta (R) BMAC system.  Most of the BMAC channels are
  247.        not available to the home dish owner.
  248.  
  249. LEITCH:  The video or the channel is scrambled with the LEITCH (R)
  250.          system.  The LEITCH scrambled channels are not available
  251.          to the home dish owner.
  252.  
  253. VC-IB:  The video or the channel is scrambled with the General
  254.         Instruments (R) Videocipher 1B system.  These channels are
  255.         not available to the home dish owner.
  256.  
  257. FM2:   The audio is delivered via a method known as FM Squared.
  258.        A simple explanation:  FM Squared signals require a video
  259.        carrier to exist.  FM Squared signals are similar to audio
  260.        subcarriers as we know it except for the fact that they are
  261.        located below the 5.00 MHz audio subcarrier frequency that a
  262.        normal satellite receiver can tune to.
  263.  
  264. SCPC:  The audio is delivered by a Single Channel Per Carrier
  265.        (SCPC) transmission.  A SCPC transmitted signal is
  266.        transmitted with its own carrier, thus eliminating the need for a
  267.        video carrier to be present to exist. Dozens of SCPC
  268.        signals can be transmitted on a single transponder.
  269.  
  270. ITC:  The service is "In the Clear" or not scrambled.
  271.  
  272. ASC:  Audio Sub-Carrier.  The audio service is delivered by an audio
  273.       sub-carrier.  An audio sub-carrier requires the presence of a
  274.       video carrier to exist.  If you take away the video carrier, the
  275.       audio sub-carrier disappears as well.
  276.  
  277. PAL:  The service is transmitted in the PAL format, rather than NTSC.
  278.  
  279. DAT:  The service is a digital audio transmission.  There is currently
  280.       no way for a home dish owner to receive a DAT service.
  281.  
  282. D2MC:  The service is transmitted in D2MAC.  The D2MAC signal may or
  283.        may not be encrypted.
  284.  
  285. SECAM: The service is transmitted in the SECAM format, rather
  286.        than NTSC.
  287.  
  288. ATIS:  Acronym for Automatic Transponder Identification System --
  289.        the morse code that contains the Uplinker Name, Uplinker
  290.        Telephone Number, and the Uplinker License Number.
  291.  
  292. -----------
  293.  
  294. - On the satellite uplink/downlink frequency chart, the
  295.   polarization of the transponder can be found in parenthesis in
  296.   the transponder column.
  297.  
  298. - If only the video is encrypted, the code column will have the
  299.   encryption system used with the video, and the audio channel
  300.   column will have the program audio channels.
  301.  
  302. - If both audio and video are encrypted, the code column will
  303.   have the encryption system used, and no audio channels will be
  304.   listed.
  305.  
  306. - All channel numbers for C-band satellites are indicated with
  307.   their dial position on a 24 channel analog dial.  All channel
  308.   numbers for Ku-band satellites are indicated with the actual
  309.   satellite manufacturer transponder number.  Please consult the
  310.   frequency list in the header of each Ku-band satellite for a
  311.   downlink frequency for a particular transponder.

  313. - For the FM Squared and SCPC Signals -- I am using a TV band
  314.   radio for reception of those signals.  I have listed the services
  315.   so that the services located towards the top of the list are
  316.   towards the left of my TV band radio dial and the services
  317.   towards the bottom of the list are towards the right of my TV
  318.   band radio dial.  Also, many of the SCPC signals found in this
  319.   chart appear on an occasional audio basis, so you may not find
  320.   a desired channel when you go searching for it.
  321.  
  322. - A "|" character next to an SCPC or FM Squared listing indicates
  323.   that two services are sharing the same SCPC or FM Squared
  324.   frequency (at least it appears that way on my TV Band radio)
  325.  
  326. - A "/" character will be used to denote stereo pairs on the
  327.   program audio listings.  On the left side of the slash will be
  328.   the frequency for the left channel.  On the right side of the
  329.   slash will be the frequency for the right channel.
  330.  
  331. - Observations for the Intelsat/Panamsat Atlantic satellites were made
  332.   with no special equipment to receive circularly polarized feeds or
  333.   exotic downlink frequencies.  There is no way to see services spot
  334.   beamed to South America or Europe.
