- There is an interesting story in the December 21st Network
- World. Seems the FCC has endorsed a cellular telephone type
- of over - the - air "cable" tv system.
-
- It operates on 28 Ghz (no, that's not a mistype), using about
- a 6 inch square flat plate antenna mounted on the windowsill.
- Each cell is about 5 miles by 5 miles. Channel capacity is
- around 50. Technology is FM for interference reduction.
- There is already a test system in place in Brighton Beach
- NY which has been operating since last summer (anyone on here
- familiar with that?). The talk is about on-demand video
- services with movies, home banking, shopping, multimedia,
- etc... Adjacent cells will be alternately horizontally or
- vertically polarized, similar to satellite systems.
-
- There is no mention of possible implementation dates..
