- Scrolling lines will be seen only on CLV. On CAV they will be a steady
- line across the screen. On freshly opened discs they are often caused
- by bits of visible dirt (e.g., pieces of plastic from somewhere). If
- still present after cleaning the disc (contact Bob Niland, rjn@fc.hp.com
- for his article on care of discs) the rolling lines may be caused by
- visible defects in the disc (black spots embedded in the plastic) or
- even defects which are not visible. Replacing the disc will usually
- correct the problem, though if the pressing is bad you may simply find
- scrolling lines in other spots. You have to be the judge if the
- scrolling lines occur too frequently or not. Most pressings will
- have a few isolated scrolling lines.
