- CLI>Does anyone know the aspect ratios of:
- CLI>-Do The Right Thing
- CLI>-Godfather I
- CLI>-Godfather II
-
- Not sure about the first one, but I remember reading that Francis Ford
- Coppola deliberately filmed the first two GODFATHER movies in the old
- Academy aspect ratio of 1.33:1. This ratio was considered obsolete at
- the time - and apparently it's still considered obsolete. Most
- theaters never show movies in that ratio anymore, and so the GODFATHER
- movies were slightly cropped to allow projection on "modern" theater
- screens.
-
- A couple of people I know have disagreed with me on this, so I'm not
- sure if this is true or not.
-
- However, everyone I know who talks about the aspect ratio of the
- GODFATHER movies says the same thing: the current "non-letterboxed"
- (you really can't say pan-and-scan in this case) edition of the films
- on VHS and laserdisc aren't missing any of the picture, unlike many
- other pan-and-crammed movies.
-
- I'm happy with my CLV laserdiscs of the movies, and I'm not interested
- in spending $200 for the new "special edition" of the GODFATHER movies
- - especially since I was very, very disappointed with the third movie.
