- They did have a sprial at Spring Canyon that included two trestles, with
- the upper trestle passing over the lower. However, in 1976 there was
- a fire (caused by arson) and the trestles burned up. They put in a
- switchback and have been using it ever since. I was last there the
- day after Thanksgiving. On that trip the rear truck of the locomotive
- (#2, the heisler) derailed on a curve at the top of the switch back
- on the way up the mountain. It took them about 30 min. to get back
- on the rails using two rerailing frogs.
