  22. Chicago Milwaukee Corp. was formed some time (maybe 2 years) before the
  23. bankruptcy of the Milwaukee Road. It was formed as a holding company which
  24. owned the railroad, the Milwaukee Land Company (which had timberlands in
  25. the Pacific Northwest), and a few other interests. When the railroad went
  26. bankrupt, I don't think CMC did. I wasn't aware of CMC Heartland Partners,
  27. which sounds like a limited partnership.

  29. A good reference on the last bankruptcy of the Milwaukee Road is 
  30. "The Nation Pays Again," written and privately published by T.H. Ploss,
  31. an attorney with the railroad up to its demise. He revised it a couple of 
  32. times as the Soo takeover and subsequent events occurred. The book was
  33. advertised fairly steadily in _Trains_ for some time, though I haven't 
  34. seen it lately.
