  14. Although this original thread was spiral tunnels,
  15. I will venture two more open spirals that I know of.
  16.  
  17. Williams Loop is on the Union Pacific (former Western
  18. Pacific) not far from Keddie.  The track winds around
  19. a broad valley and crosses over itself (on a short
  20. bridge if I remember correctly).  It is a good photo 
  21. spot, but hard to shoot in its entirity due to the 
  22. heavy tree cover in some areas.

  24. The other is on the Roaring Camp and Big Trees Narrow
  25. Gauge Railroad in Felton.  This is/was a tight spiral
  26. with a trestle over a another trestle.  Several years
  27. back an arsonist burned the trestles and the line
  28. substituted a steep switchback.  It has been about
  29. 17 years since I was there, so I don't know if the 
  30. line was ever restored.
