- The Lowe 150 is the only receiver with three sync modes built-in and
- comes standard. When possible, I use the double sideband sync
- detection as this offers audibly less distortion and increases the
- frequency response over envelope detection.
-
- When interference occurs on one sideband, sync detection on the optimum
- sideband often clears the noise and provides a noise-free signal. One
- problem with sync detection is the "howling" which occurs when the
- tuning is slowly rocked from one side of the carrier. The Lowe offers
- a switch to envelope detection (no howling) when rapidly tuning.
-
- By the way, the Lowe 150 uses a single chip FM detector as the sync
- detector (unlike the stereo AM chip Sony uses).
-
- A really great receiver!
